Pre-market scan · 06:30 ET · every session

Most mornings, the answer is no.

ticker5 is a screening terminal for individual US equities. Every session it runs your watchlist through five gates and reports what survived. When one name clears all five you get a single idea with fixed levels. When nothing clears — which is most mornings — it says so, names the gate that closed on every candidate, and stops.

The terminal

Everything the scan saw, in one screen.

Watchlist with a five-square gate register per name, the verdict with fixed levels, and the three-month structure the decision was measured against.

The five gates

Every name, every morning, in cost order.

The cheap deterministic checks run first across the whole list. Only what survives is worth a research pass. Every threshold is published, and every rejection names the gate that closed.

G1

Earnings block

A name reporting today, or before the intended exit, is a binary event rather than a directional read.

hard block
G2

Liquidity floor

Thin names carry spreads wide enough to consume a 3% edge before it exists.

≥ $50M/day
G3

3% realism

Measured rather than assumed: what share of the last 62 sessions actually produced an intraday range covering 3%.

≥ 40% of days
G4

Three-month structure

High, Low and Mid across 63 sessions. Two independent reads — drift and slope — must agree before a direction is called. Long only, so a downtrend closes the gate.

not downtrend
G5

Hype check

Mention volume across the finance subreddits against each name's own 30-day baseline. A spike raises scrutiny; it is never treated as a reason to buy.

contrarian
Two possible outputs

One idea, or none.

There is no third state, no shortlist of maybes, no consolation pick. A session that produces nothing is a complete result, and it is the common one.

NO TRADE

Nothing cleared all five gates. The scan names the gate that closed on each candidate.

Fit

Who this is built for.

ticker5 suits a narrow kind of trader. If you are not that trader, it will frustrate you, and we would rather say so before you subscribe.

You trade one name at a time

A single position, entered deliberately, with the exit decided before the entry. ticker5 issues at most one idea per session and nothing about it accommodates a basket.

You already have a watchlist

The terminal screens names you chose. It is not a discovery engine, does not sweep the market, and will not surface a ticker you have never heard of.

You are comfortable doing nothing

The most common output is no output. If an empty morning reads as a wasted subscription rather than a filter working, this is the wrong instrument.

Not for automation

There is no broker connection and no execution path. If you want signals wired into an order router, ticker5 is deliberately the wrong shape.

Stated plainly

What ticker5 will not do.

Every item here is a deliberate decision rather than a roadmap gap. On a trading decision, a tool that overstates its reach is worse than no tool at all.

Touch your brokerage

No broker integration, no stored credentials, no order code path anywhere in the system. ticker5 cannot place, size, modify or cancel anything. You trade in your own account, by hand.

Publish a win rate

It does not record outcomes, so it holds no track record to quote and will never display one. Any signal service advertising a hit rate is asking you to trust a number you cannot audit.

Know your account

No balance, buying power, settled cash or positions. It cannot count your day trades or confirm a trade is permitted under PDT and T+1 settlement. Those remain yours to track.

Promise the move

The 3% target describes the strategy's shape, not a forecast. Stocks gap through stops overnight, halt mid-move, and ignore every gate on this page.

The uncomfortable table

Why the gates are this strict.

A symmetric +3% / −3% strategy compounds to nothing unless the win rate holds above roughly 51% — and above the low-to-mid 50s once spread and slippage are real. Ten points of win rate separates a rounding error from a life change, which is why the terminal would rather reject a marginal setup than fill a quota.

Win rateGrowth / trade$500 after 480 trades
50%−0.05%≈ $400
55%+0.26%≈ $1,700
60%+0.56%≈ $7,200
65%+0.86%≈ $30,000
70%+1.16%≈ $128,000

Illustrative compounding of a single pot at ±3%. Not a projection, not achievable in practice, and not a claim this product makes. Sustaining a win rate above ~55–60% on daily directional bets is extraordinarily difficult.

Access

Priced per seat, per terminal.

The scan runs once each session on every tier. What changes is how many names it covers, how deep the research pass goes, and whether the output can leave the terminal.

Before you ask

Questions we get.

Does it work?
We don't know, and neither does anyone selling you a number. ticker5 records no outcomes, so it has no measured hit rate — that was a deliberate design choice, not an omission. What it can prove is that every idea cleared five published gates with thresholds you can inspect. Whether that produces a positive expectancy over a meaningful sample is a question only your own trading answers.
Why is the target always 3%?
A fixed symmetric target and stop makes the arithmetic legible: your break-even win rate is a single number you can reason about, rather than a moving blend of position sizes and R multiples. It also forces the third gate to exist — if a name cannot realistically travel 3% intraday, the strategy is inapplicable to it and the terminal says so instead of quietly shrinking the target.
Why long only?
Shorting generally requires a margin account, introduces borrow costs and locate risk, and doubles the failure surface. The structure gate already identifies downtrending names; ticker5 uses that to exclude them rather than to trade them.
Can I change the thresholds?
On Desk and above, yes — every gate's threshold is configurable, including the 40% realism floor and the $50M liquidity floor. On Terminal they are fixed at the published defaults. Loosening a gate makes ideas more frequent and worse, which is the trade you would be making.
Where does the data come from?
Daily bars and quotes from a licensed market-data provider, the earnings calendar from two independent sources combined by union, and mention volume via the Reddit API measured against each name's own rolling baseline. News and catalysts come from a research pass over public sources at scan time. Every panel in the terminal shows its source and timestamp.
What happens on a session with no idea?
You get the no-trade verdict, the full scan showing which gate closed on each name, and nothing else. No consolation pick, no "watch this one." Roughly four sessions in five end this way, which is what a working filter looks like.
